The week-long camp ‘Sanspanadan’ organised by National Service Scheme at Apeejay College of Fine Arts (ACFA) in Jalandhar culminated with zeal and positivity. The last day of the camp was graced by Padam Shri Sant Balbir Singh Seechewal, a renowned environmentalist and member of Rajya Sabha, who presided as the Chief Guest. Known as Eco-Baba, Sant ji  has dedicated his life to environmental preservation and successfully restored the Kalli Bein rivulet.

Dr. Neerja Dhingra, Principal of ACFA, warmly welcomed Sant Ji and expressed gratitude for his presence. The grand finale of the seven-day NSS camp commenced on a healthy note with the Chief Guest planting trees along with Dr. Dhingra while pledging to safeguard the environment.

The event further featured the NSS’ theme song and a video highlighting the accomplishments of the NSS wing, Sant Ji’s environmental work, and the Seenchewal model for treating water. The documentary served as inspiration for students and faculty to make eco-conscious choices.

Akshat, a BA 2nd semester student and NSS volunteer, performed environmental-themed songs. A film titled “Phurar”, created by Dr. Simkee Dev and her team was showcased which emphasised the significance of rain in India. NSS Volunteers also presented an enchanting dance performance.

Addressing the gathering, Sant ji expressed concern about human actions polluting essential elements. He emphasised the role of educated individuals in environmental degradation and urged students to convert education into actions that preserve nature.

The seven days saw active participation from NSS volunteers and student campers, who dedicated themselves to continuously gaining knowledge as well as further familiarising with social responsibilities. The participants, under the direction of Dr. Vinod Kumar, a yoga expert, also practiced yoga while understanding how necessary it is to live a happy and healthy life.

Further creating awareness among people to avoid drugs and single use plastic, NSS volunteers took out a rally in a nearby village to sensitise all to “not to use plastic in the regular life and avoid drugs”. School children also took part in poster-making competitions.

The NSS camp Sanspanadan was a grand success with NSS students sharing their camp experiences and receiving certificates of appreciation. Resource persons including Dr. Gagan Gambhir, Dr. Monika Anand, Dr. Ms Rajni Gupta, and Dr. Simkee Dev also received mementos for their camp contributions.
