The Annual Appreciation Day at Apeejay School, Model Town, Jalandhar, held on December 14, 2024, was marked by a grand celebration, performances, speeches, and heartfelt gratitude. This year the theme of the event was – Jazbaa- Where Passion Meets the Real Purpose of Life. Students, teachers, parents, and other guests attended to acknowledge the achievements of the school and its students and staff.

The event was graced by the Chief Guest Dr Mandeep Kaur, PCS, Joint Commissioner, MCJ, and the Special Guest was Mr Inderjit Singh Paintal (an alumnus of Apeejay School, eminent author, podcaster, life coach, and entrepreneur). The event was also graced, virtually, by esteemed Dr Neha Berlia, Co-Promoter of Apeejay Stya & Svran Group and Pro-Chancellor of Apeejay Stya University.

The function began with a warm welcome to the Chief Guest and the Guest of Honour with flowers. Their inspiring presence held great significance to the occasion. This was followed by the ceremonial lamp-lighting that typified the torch of learning and wisdom thus creating a highly auspicious undertone.

The melodious school song presented by the school choir encapsulated and spoke to the very idea of unity and excellence as understood and defined within Apeejay School.

Speaking at the event, Dr Kaur said, “It feels great to address this Annual Appreciation Day at Apeejay School, under the able guidance of Mrs Sushma Paul Berlia (Chairman, Apeejay Stya & Svran Group, Chancellor, Apeejay Stya University, and Chairman, Apeejay Education). I am thankful for this honour of being invited as Chief Guest. Swami Vivekananda once said, ‘Good education develops intellect, builds character, and strengthens the mind’. Apeejay Education has always worked towards holistic development with its students.”

Learning is not just about education, but it is also about being responsible and compassionate human beings, the Chief Guest added. “As teachers and parents, our responsibility is to raise citizens who are morally and culturally rich. We should educate the child to be value-based and at the same time aware of modern developments. India is very rich in cultural heritage. Students should never be detached from their roots. Maintaining a balance between tradition and progress is crucial for individuals to become global citizens in this rapidly changing world. I am confident that students at Apeejay School will perform excellently in their academic pursuits and contribute positive elements to society. Let’s promise to work together for the betterment of our nation through education and social responsibility. Thanks for allowing me to be a part of this wonderful celebration,” Dr Kaur stated.

Mr Singh thanked the Officiating Principal for trusting him with the responsibility of speaking at this event and spoke about three instances. First, driving into Apeejay School brought back fond memories of my student life. I remember getting late to school. Today, I was late again! I remember struggling with English and learning valuable lessons about resilience. Today’s digital distractions are far greater, but the principles of determination and perseverance remain the same,” he said and added that he always encourages his students to consider failures as stepping stones to achieving their dreams with great passion. Life presents challenges, yet our ability to overcome them shapes our future. To the students: Be curious, be persistent, and always strive for excellence.

Second Instance: “I still remember my first poetry recitation on this stage. Overcome by stage fright, I forgot my lines and was booed off by my classmates. That moment taught me resilience. I vowed never to let fear hold me back again. Such experiences shape character, teaching us the value of persistence even in the face of failure,” he said.

“Finally, coming back here after all these years is very nostalgic. I used to walk to school, and the excitement of walking, and coming back as I saw those classrooms and corridors, all reminded me of that excitement. It reminds me how a school forms the foundation of one’s life. Cherish every moment and make the most of the opportunities presented before you,” Mr Singh said.

This was followed by a video on the contributions of Mrs Sushma Paul Berlia, which showcased her contributions to Apeejay Education over the years.

Dr Neha Berlia, who joined the function virtually, said, “On this occasion of Annual Appreciation Day of Apeejay School, Model Town, Jalandhar, a very warm welcome to the Chief Guest, Guest of Honour, and respected gathering. I am proud to say that Apeejay Education has been on the path of excellence for over five decades. We always believed in value-based, competency-driven, and holistic education. We consider developing a well-rounded student through an excellent mix of academics, sports, arts, and values,” Dr Neha Berlia said.

“The cornerstone of our institutions has been the inculcation of human values and fostering innovation through emerging technologies like Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning, and the Internet of Things. I encourage our students to keep striving for excellence, be curious, and never give up on their dreams. Education is the most powerful tool for shaping a better world,” Dr Neha Berlia said and concluded with Nelson Mandela’s words: ‘Let us continue on this journey together and build a brighter future for all’.

Ms Priyanka Grover, the Officiating Principal, presented the school’s achievements and thanked the management, staff, parents, and students for their support. She reiterated the commitment of the school to develop all-rounded individuals. The Annual Report was focused on the school’s academic, cultural, and sports achievements, including national and international competitions. Students were rewarded for their outstanding performances and contributions.

The stage was in a buzz with the performance of Western dance that comprised energetic hip-hop and smooth contemporary. The students showcased their energy, passion, and creativity. Dressed in colourful attire, their performance ended with thunderous applause from everyone present.

The Hindi play– The Enigmatic World of Social Media – highlighted the advantages and pitfalls of social media, emphasising the importance of using technology responsibly. The play revolved around the effects of social media on today’s youth and dealt with themes like cyberbullying and peer pressure. It had an emotional appeal in the story and acting of the characters. The idea was to create awareness about the perils of being on social media all the time. The event culminated in a scintillating bhangra. The students’ energy with moves resembled the traditional Punjabi movements and had the crowd clapping for them.

The Officiating Principal also gave mementoes to the Chief Guest and the Special Guest as a token of appreciation. A vote of thanks was proposed by Ms Namrata Sharma, the Headmistress of the school. “It is a great honour and privilege to deliver this Vote of Thanks on such a memorable occasion. A profound thanks to our Chief Guest, Dr Mandeep Kaur, and our Special Guest, Mr Inderjit Singh Paintal, for dignifying us by accepting our invitation to such a function. Your meaningful words have inspired and guided all of us. I want to thank Dr Neha Berlia for her continued leadership and guidance. Your vision has been a guiding light for our school’s progress.
