‘An Eco-friendly New Year’: Poem by Ruhi Sengupta, Apeejay School, Kharghar

On a clear starry night
When the stars are so bright,
Through my window glass
I see the stars and grass.

Then I face the calendar
And get a mental reminder,
Tomorrow’s an eve
Tomorrow’s New Year’s Eve!

What preparations to make
Which cake to bake?
How to buy the nice crackers?
When to burst the crackers?

Today’s New Year
To the very eye and soul it’s dear,
A fresh new page
To write everything, the world and wage.

A new flower blooming
A new ship sailing,
Or a rare bird singing
Everyone’s smiling.

Let’s preserve this forever
So we can enjoy this whenever,
So let’s save our Earth
Use less wood in your hearth.

Pollution level has to reduce
Solar energy has been yet to produce,
Switch off lights when not in use
For someone to move aside, say excuse.

Decorate your 2024 book
So that good it looks,
With the colours of your manners
And the glitter of your deeds.
