Some internships go beyond being just a resume highlight — they shape your thinking, build your character, and affirm your career path. For Ananya Verma, a student of Apeejay School of Management (ASM), her internship at JK Tyre & Industries Ltd was one such experience. Specialising in Human Resources, Ananya had a hands-on learning curve that introduced her to the real-world nuances of people operations. In this engaging interview, she reflects on the invaluable exposure she gained and how ASM prepared her for it.
What were your key learnings as an intern at JK Tyre?
During my HR internship at JK Tyre, I got to witness the real-world application of core HR functions like recruitment, onboarding, employee engagement, and training & development. It was fascinating to see how policies take shape and are implemented in a large corporate setup. I also got hands-on experience in screening resumes, coordinating interviews, and maintaining employee records. The internship helped me understand how HR serves as the bridge between management and employees — a crucial, people-centric role.
What kind of growth did you observe within the organisation?
I noticed a strong emphasis on employee development, especially through training programs and welfare initiatives. JK Tyre is also moving towards digital transformation — using HRMS tools for tasks like tracking performance, payroll, and attendance. Their structured performance management and internal communication systems were quite impressive. The company genuinely invests in building a future-ready workforce.

What are the essential skills for succeeding in this industry?
To thrive in HR, you need strong communication and interpersonal skills, a high level of empathy, and an eye for detail. Confidentiality and problem-solving abilities are equally crucial. It’s also important to be familiar with HR software systems and labor laws. The profession demands a perfect blend of emotional intelligence and technical knowledge.
How did ASM help you during your internship?
ASM gave me a solid theoretical foundation. Concepts like recruitment cycles, employee engagement strategies, and motivation theories were directly applicable during my time at JK Tyre. Soft skills training and class discussions at ASM boosted my confidence to contribute in meetings and take ownership of tasks. I could clearly connect the dots between classroom learning and industry practice.
What’s your future aspiration?
I aim to build a fulfilling career in Human Resources, particularly in Talent Acquisition and Employee Development. I want to work in an organization where I can help foster a thriving and inclusive workplace culture. In the long term, I hope to take on a strategic HR role, leading teams and helping shape impactful HR policies.
