In a world that’s moving faster every day, how do we hold on to the moments that truly matter? For this creative alumna of Apeejay College of Fine Arts (ACFA), Jalandhar, the answer lies in the delicate artistry of hand and feet casting. Turning human emotion into tangible keepsakes, Jasnoor Kaur is helping people preserve memories of loved ones – whether it’s a baby’s first imprint, an elderly parent’s weathered hand, or the intertwined fingers of a newlywed couple. In this candid conversation, she opens up about the evolving trends, emotional value, and thoughtful pricing strategies behind her venture.

What are the biggest myths people have about hand and feet casting?

The biggest misconception is definitely about timelines! Many still think that the cast can be made and framed within a day or two. But in reality, each piece takes time – from moulding to drying to framing – especially if it’s a customised design. It’s an intricate process that requires patience and care.

Are there specific seasons or occasions when you see more demand?

Absolutely! It’s quite seasonal. For instance, during the wedding months, there’s a surge in couple hand castings. In April to July, I often get requests for baby hand or feet castings – maybe because of school breaks or family time. Even elderly castings pick up around these months, as people want to create timeless keepsakes of their parents or grandparents.

How do you see this art form evolving in the next five years?

The field is definitely set to grow. New materials and techniques are already coming in, and with more awareness, people are getting curious. I believe in the next five years, we’ll see more innovation – not just in materials, but also in how castings are presented and personalised.

How do you balance affordability with the artistic value of your work?

I’ve created three categories: basic, custom, and luxury custom. The first two are budget-friendly and designed for accessibility. But the luxury range is truly special – it includes premium materials, imported frames, and significant personal involvement from my side. That’s where I get to go all out creatively.

Why do you think casting has become such a meaningful gift today?

We live in a fast-moving world. People often relocate for work or studies and can’t always be near loved ones. A casting preserves that emotional connection – like a baby’s tiny hand, or the warmth of a parent’s touch. Even when someone isn’t physically present, the keepsake helps you feel their presence. It’s a timeless reminder of love, moments, and people we hold dear.
