Wonders of Electricity Generation: A Dam’s Insightful Lesson

Hello everyone. I am Haridya Sharma. Like every kid, I used to be very curious about electricity. For example, how light is turned on with one push and how we can get cool air in summer and hot water in winter. That is due to electricity. But how electricity is made has always been an interesting topic for me. I got my answers on a trip when I saw a dam. I knew about the working of a dam much before that, but after watching a dam in real life, it clarified my doubts.

Then I came to know that a flowing river is blocked by making a wall (structure of a dam) so that the water of the river is gathered to form a lake, and the water is released appropriately through the dam. When the water flows through the dam, the turbines installed there rotate and create a large amount of energy, which is then transferred to big generators and stored in powerhouses as electricity. This electricity is then used in the everyday life of everyone. How interesting the fact is that water, which everyone uses to quench their thirst, can be used to generate electric power. Though dams are not the only source of electricity, they are a more common source of clean energy. I hope other kids will also find it interesting.
