Wellness careers help growth in multiple directions, making people better with age. These help the individual grow, making the practitioner a balanced human and sociable, while retaining an invisible strength.

So, is architecture a wellness career?

Well, every project done by an architect adds to the creative index. Every building designed, every urban neighbourhood model done, and every master plan, brings satisfaction. It connects the innate nature to ecological objectives and hence, brings wellness. It is a career that lasts all life and grows with age and experience. It is not a quick fix career, but a footing for a lifelong interest that leaves memories to last and stories to be retold. This profession connects the architect to the good life and becomes a foundation for many possible future interests.

Every career path has an aura. Each professional aura becomes a part of our auric energy and gives us a personality. Many times, we can tell one from the other just by meeting a person. The richer the auric manifestations between what corresponds to the root chakra which corresponds to the materials of the world and the infinite intuitive that is the Saharstrahara which corresponds to revelations, findings, poetic connections, epitomes of art-form, etc.; the better the profession’s wellness.

An architect seldom buys furniture off the shelf. With knowledge of material and craftsmanship, a signature style is carried to every part of the house, living, mannerisms, looks, and dressing. Architect’s creative inputs give uniqueness to those aspiring and identity to many lives.

This figure explains the aspects that are essential while selecting a profession and the
professional aura that extends beyond immediate objectives. The intention is to explain that the Aura of the Profession is as important as the direct benefits of the profession (mentioned inside the circular diamond)

Does the profession shape your behavior?

Our professional choice leads to life-long involvements that take up a major share of our time and energy. It shapes what we are. We dedicate almost all of our youth to studying and building a career. Our most productive years are thus engaged in something that we want to become. This may not essentially be what is good for us. A growing child is taught to aspire for economic conversion from a career. Is a profession all about money and physical possessions? Careers are not just economic conversions they must add to an individual’s life. Peer aping and competition are what push us towards a path that is not a path of well-being.

Elon Musk, a few years ago, decided to sell his physical possessions. “Financially, possessions weigh us down in the form of debt…. and as attachments. Collecting things harms the quality of life. Money must be spent on experiences, which make life rich by creating memories to look back on.” .. and going by the same argument a career that adds to the experiential and creative nature would bring more memories.

Lack of satisfaction in careers, stress in the workspace, and well-being disconnection bring associated diseases. A look around and we can see that the career-span of high-paid managers, those with top-most IT skills and bankers, show signs of an early collapse. Education has come a long way from being just the knowledge of language and literature to knowledge systems that conserve human growth. It is a key to the knowledge powerhouse. It must now amalgamate with ecology and human life and give social-engineered careers.

Architecture has always been a wellness profession

Architects remain in practice till their ripe old age. They do not retire. Padma Shri, Padma Bhushan, Padma Vibhushan B. V. Doshi lived to the ripe old age of 95. Frank Lloyd Wright lived right up to 91, Charles Correa to 85 and Joseph Allen Stein was 89 when he died.

The basic design education in the careers of architects gives out limitless possibilities for involvement at all ages and across different mediums of expression, making survival and change possible. When we choose the right career a separate effort towards wellness is not needed.

Therefore, choose your career path, and your profession carefully!
