Critical thinking is one of the essential elements of academic success and decision-making; it empowers one to evaluate information, solve problems, and make correct or valid decisions or judgments. For whatever purpose, the exercise of developing such skills amounts to more than simply increasing one’s mental horsepower; it is more about learning how to move on in life and confront the challenges with lucidity and confidence.
Several simple approaches could be pursued toward that end.

Question everything: One of the easy and basic steps toward attaining critical thinking is curiosity. Spare some time to be curious about everything. Ask basic questions like who, what, when, where, why, and how whenever you are faced with new information. Never accept facts at face value. Instead, probe deeper into the context and who told the information. Through this, you develop a habit of seeking to understand more and not fall for superficial answers.
Reflective thinking: Regularly take the time to consider past actions, decisions made, and the results of such decisions. This can be through a journal, or just taking a moment to reflect on your past actions and their results. This way, you will be able to demonstrate the patterns of your thinking and action and possible biases, considering how other ways would have been leading to other results.
Systematic problem solving: Use a systematic plan, not impulses, to guide your approach to the problems. First, identify the problem; then get relevant information. This orderly plan will help ensure that all points of the issue are covered and that decisions are made based on logic, not feelings.
Read widely, read often: The different content types and perspectives, the cultures, broaden your horizon and may get you acquainted with absolutely whole new ways of thinking. From books to articles, and essays, it makes you better at connecting the dots between ideas and analyzing them.

Engage in debates: Sometimes just hearing how others argue their points can bring you to think of things you had not considered or at least help you learn how to put yours together better. A polite argument makes one have quick, critical thinking and express themselves clearly.
Regular practice: Like any other skill, critical thinking has to be practised too. While you are practising these skills, you will become adept at them. Keep your mind running by engaging in some small games or challenging activities that involve solving a puzzle, acting out a strategy, or thinking logically.
By adopting these methods in real life, one can develop one’s critical thinking to a great extent. This helps one better in academics but also in everyday decision-making by giving one a whole, all-rounded vision for each context that arises.
