Recently, Apeejay School, Mahavir Marg, hosted an Inter-house Punjabi Declamation Competition, bringing together students from both senior and middle categories. The event focused on building clarity of thought and confidence in public speaking, while also encouraging students to engage with current social concerns.

Students from Nilgiri, Vindhya, Aravali, and Shivalik houses participated with enthusiasm. Each participant presented their views with careful preparation and a clear sense of purpose. The competition created a space where language was not just spoken but used as a medium to think, question, and respond.

The choice of topics reflected issues that students encounter in everyday life. One theme explored the growing concern around gaming addiction, asking whether it remains a form of entertainment or has turned into a harmful habit. The second topic focused on society’s dependence on petrol and diesel, encouraging participants to reflect on emerging challenges and possible solutions.

Engaging with real-world concerns

Through their speeches, students moved beyond simple opinions. They attempted to understand both sides of each issue and presented their arguments with clarity. This approach helped them connect classroom learning with real-world situations.

Teachers observing the event noted how such platforms help students organise their thoughts and speak with confidence. The ability to present ideas clearly remains an important skill, especially when students are encouraged to reflect on issues that affect society.

A meaningful learning experience

The competition also served as a reminder that language learning goes beyond textbooks. It becomes meaningful when students use it to express ideas, raise questions, and suggest solutions.

The event concluded on a positive note, with participants leaving more confident in their abilities. Activities like these continue to shape thoughtful individuals who are aware of their surroundings and prepared to engage with them in a responsible manner.
