Growing greener tomorrow, one sapling at a time

Environmental conservation becomes more meaningful when students take responsibility for the spaces around them. With this purpose, NCC cadets of Apeejay School, Model Town, Jalandhar, recently took part in a sapling plantation activity within and beyond the school premises.

The activity began after the 2 Punjab Battalion NCC Unit provided 140 saplings to the school’s NCC cadets. Their participation turned the distribution into a wider effort focused on planting, care, and personal responsibility.

A green effort beyond the school

The cadets came together to plant the saplings at different places across the school premises. They also planted them at various locations outside the school, extending the activity to the surrounding areas.

This approach gave the students an opportunity to contribute directly to environmental conservation. Instead of limiting the effort to one part of the school, they helped widen its reach by choosing several planting locations.

For many cadets, the responsibility did not end when the school activity concluded. Several students carried saplings home and planted them with their families. They also took on the responsibility of nurturing the young plants.

Learning to care for nature

Planting a sapling is only the beginning. Its growth depends on regular care, patience, and attention. By taking the plants home, the cadets involved their families in the effort and made environmental care part of their everyday lives.

The activity also helped connect environmental awareness with action. The cadets did not simply discuss the importance of a greener future. They participated in creating one, one sapling at a time.

Through the plantation effort, the students contributed to the hope of a cleaner and healthier tomorrow. More importantly, they accepted the responsibility of caring for what they had planted. The activity served as a reminder that lasting environmental change begins with consistent action and shared commitment.
