Apeejay School Management students attends interactive session on the future of logistics

Apeejay School of Management hosted Dr Ashish Negi, Vice President – Service Logistics at DHL Supply Chain, for an interactive session with the institute’s PGDM 2025–27 batch. He traced the evolution of Supply Chain and Logistics from its traditional roots to where the function is headed next.

Dr. Negi structured the conversation around the technologies now reshaping the field — Big Data and Analytics, Digital Supply Chains, Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning, Robotics, Smart Logistics, and the Internet of Things. Rather than treating these as abstract buzzwords, he grounded them in examples drawn from leading organisations, using real industry practice to illustrate how supply chain functions have had to continuously adapt as business environments. 

The session was built to connect two things students often encounter separately: the foundational theory of Supply Chain Management taught in the classroom, and the emerging trends actually driving change in the industry today. By tying the two together, Dr. Negi encouraged students to think about the field less as a fixed body of knowledge and more as a function in continuous motion.

A significant portion of the discussion focused on India’s position within the global supply chain landscape, particularly at a moment when disruptions — of varying scale and origin — have become a recurring feature of global trade. Dr. Negi spoke to how India can use technology, innovation, and digital capability not just to keep pace with these disruptions, but to build supply chains resilient. 

The session closed by turning the focus toward the students themselves, encouraging them to consider entrepreneurial opportunities within India’s growing Supply Chain and Logistics ecosystem. Dr. Negi framed the challenge ahead for future business leaders as one of using technology deliberately — to eliminate inefficiencies, strengthen resilience, and build supply chains capable of sustaining a genuine competitive edge over time.

For many in the batch, the session reshaped how they understood the discipline itself. Aryan Sehgal, a student in the PGDM 2025–27 batch, said the interaction made clear that supply chain management goes well beyond moving goods from one point to another. 

Fellow student Ashu Choudhary echoed that shift in perspective, noting that the session helped clarify how the future of the field lies in the convergence of connectivity, automation, and intelligence.
