In a colourful and vibrant showcase of early childhood development, Apeejay School, Tanda Road, Jalandhar, hosted a series of interactive and educational activities for the pre-primary wing. These activities, meticulously crafted by the school’s dedicated educators, were designed to provide holistic growth opportunities while instilling a love for learning in the budding minds.

The nursery section adopted an innovative approach to language development through the “Letter F Activity.” The main objective was to associate the letter ‘F’ with an array of engaging methods. Show and Tell sessions, a beloved component of early childhood learning, were employed to help students associate flashcards featuring objects beginning with the letter ‘F’ with their corresponding names. This not only enhanced vocabulary, but also encouraged confidence in verbal expression.

In an effort to enhance fine motor skills and introduce phonetics, the nursery students participated in clay moulding activities. Guided by their teachers, the children crafted clay fishes. This engaging task honed their motor skills as well as introduced them to the initial sound ‘F,’ aligning with the overarching theme. Through hands-on exploration, the students began to form connections between the letter, the sound, and the visual representation.

The school’s commitment to experiential learning was evident in the ‘Float/Sink’ activity, in which students actively engaged in scientific observation. Young learners interacted with items placed in water and learned to differentiate between real objects and their corresponding pictures on boards. This hands-on approach enabled them to grasp the fundamental concepts of buoyancy and the properties of objects in liquid.

In the Lower Kindergarten (LKG) class, students participated in activities such as ‘Counting with Stars.’ This interactive exercise required students to select numbered stars, reinforcing number recognition and counting skills. Moreover, the ‘Drop Everything and Read’ initiative encouraged word recognition through dynamic actions and sounds, fostering a love for reading.

For Upper Kindergarten (UKG) students, the school organised the ‘Treasure Hunt with Letters’ activity. This intriguing challenge pushed students to form words from a collection of scattered letters. Beyond the language component, this exercise promoted logical thinking and fine motor skills, making learning an engaging adventure.

As part of the curriculum’s effort to cultivate a comprehensive understanding of the world, students were introduced to the various states of water: liquid, solid, and gas. Through hands-on experiences, they observed the transformation of water from one state to another due to heating and cooling processes. This not only kindled scientific curiosity, but also contributed to the students’ understanding of fundamental scientific principles.

The series of interactive and educational activities have successfully combined engagement with holistic learning. By integrating various subjects and skills, the educators have created an environment that stimulates curiosity, critical thinking, and creativity. These activities not only prepare young learners for future academic challenges but also foster a love for learning that will undoubtedly stay with them throughout their educational journey.
