The decision regarding a child’s education is considered one of the most crucial decisions in an Indian family’s life, and parents are willing to invest a significant amount of time and effort to ensure they make the right choice.

Parents often do a lot of research while looking for a school for their child due to several reasons deeply rooted in the cultural, social, and educational landscape of India. The location of the school is crucial. Parents want a school that is convenient and safe for their children to commute to. The same was true for Sweety when it was time for her daughter, Nitara Singh Poonia, who is now in the nursery at Apeejay Svran Global School, 21-D, Faridabad.

In a candid interview, this mother, a nurse, talks about why she chose this branch.

How has your experience been with this school?

The school is very good. I don’t see the need to make any changes. Of course, at the time of the admissions, we had some expectations, but so far the school has not disappointed us. I had not expected that the teachers would pay much attention to the toddlers. The best part is that there are not very many students. This makes it easy for the teachers to give individualistic attention.

How are the teachers?

They are very good. My daughter always has good things to say about Seema Khatri ma’am. She always tells me what she did in the class and what her ma’am taught her.

How is a learning curve?

Learning is a continuous lifelong process. What is good is the bond that the children are forming here. The personal development – emotional – that the child forms is because of the bond that the child has with the teacher. I believe that a child learns more because of this great bond that develops.

My daughter is an extrovert and she is getting ample space to express herself. This makes her happy and in turn, makes us happy.

What all has she learnt?

Each month the study theme changes. So far. She has learnt about plants, and small and big things, at present, she is learning phonics. She loves to take part in activities as well. She was part of the poem recitation and dance activity as well. She loves to colour. So I have bought her extra worksheets at home. This keeps her busy at home.

How did you end up choosing this school?

Besides the fact that the school is very near to where we live, my husband and I heard good things about the school. We heard the brand value the school has and the long legacy it enjoys. I also heard that the teachers are good here. But we also did our research and found that whatever was conveyed to us was correct and not biased. It made sense for Nitara to study here.

A few of the children in our neighbourhood also go to this school. With my husband and I working, having a school nearby is convenient. Overall, we received positive feedback about the school whomever we spoke to.

How was the admission process?

It was very smooth. We had gone to the school to get all the paperwork done. The staff and everyone that we met were cordial and supportive. They were humble and explained in detail the entire admission process.

How do you manage to spend quality time with your daughter?

I ensure that my shifts are such that I am back at home by 3:30 pm. The rest of the time is spent with her and catching up with what happened in the class. My husband, a lawyer with his practice, drops and picks her up from school before going to work. I live with my in-laws so that is an added advantage. All my off days are spent with my daughter as well.

What about parent-teacher meetings?

They are held regularly. My husband attended them religiously. The teachers have positive feedback for my daughter which makes us very happy. Of course, the teachers want to meet me as well but my shifts don’t allow me to do that. But I am doing my best to attend a few meetings this year.

Would you recommend this school to others?

Definitely. This school offers so many positives. There is individual attention, the school has a brand value and my daughter loves going to the school. What more can a parent want?
