A healthy balance between studies and extracurricular activities is achievable with effective time management, goal setting, and communication. Finding this balance enhances your overall well-being and contributes to a more fulfilling school experience, shares Reena Mehra whose son Shivansh Mehra studies in class XII at Apeejay School, Noida.

Excerpts from the interview

Why did you select Apeejay as an admission choice?

I recall the time when I was searching for a good school for my elder son, Apeejay was a choice by default. Reason being most of my family members are the alumni of this school. Both my husband and my brother-in-law are alumni of this school. Besides that, this school has one of the best curriculum frameworks.

How is Shivansh coping up with the tension around upcoming boards?

First and foremost we as parents never believe in putting any sort of pressure over our children for studies. We believe that full marks never determine the future of a child. We have always encouraged both our boys to participate in sports and perform with equal diligence and hard work as they would do in studies. These days there is so much pressure on the children regarding admission in colleges for further studies and we realise this dilemma well. Hence, we have always told our children that there are plenty of opportunities in the market and following the herd blindly is a wrong concept.

Has Apeejay influenced your child in any positive manner?

Of course, to a large extent. My son has undergone a big transformation since the time he got admission into this school. Over these years, the teachers have influenced him in all positive ways. He has now understood the value of humanity and I feel so proud to see that he will definitely turn into a great human being and the credit for this actually goes to the great environment that the teachers have provided.

How is the balance between education and extra-curricular activities?

Shivansh is an avid sports person and he enjoys all the sports activities that are present at the school. He is fully involved in football, cricket, swimming and tennis to a large extent. I also always encourage him to pursue these games since I believe he can really outshine others in them and take any of the sports as a professional career ahead.

Define your parenting approach.

We are extremely easy going parents. Our mantra to great parenting is to let the child find and define his own path of success. We want the child to experience the pressures of life and only then he would realise and understand the value of many virtues in life.

Do you believe in the adage – that school is the second home for a child?

Absolutely. School environment is a real game-changer for a child. In my son’s case particularly I would like to share that the school never plays any favouritism here. My son, like others, is given so many opportunities to hone his skills and figure out his areas of strength. I am extremely impressed to see such an impartial and equal approach lend out to children to explore their varied talents.
