Basic values like respect, communication, and tolerance are extremely important to foster social harmony and positive relationships. If you intend to embrace human values, it will help you lead a sense of personal fulfilment and contentment. Meet Saharsh Bharadwaj, who was recently conferred with the coveted Dr Stya Paul Award for Human Values.
In a candid telephonic interview, Saharsh, a class XI student at Apeejay School, Noida speaks about how human values are an indispensable aspect of shaping a society.
Excerpts from the interview
Tell us about yourself.
I am always enthusiastic about things around me. I love to play chess and spend most of my time with my friends and family. Moreover, I am super dedicated when it comes to studying. I aspire to become a Computer Science Engineer.
What was your reaction when you got the award?
I’ve been nominated for this award many times before, but this year, I finally won it. It felt amazing — I was on cloud nine. I am super proud of myself.
According to you, what is the idea of human values?
Human values are qualities that are vital for the progress and improvement of society. A strong and thriving society depends on those who uphold these values. When everyone embraces these values, it can make the world a better place to live in.
What is the greatest human value that you possess?
Respecting others’ opinions is crucial. Sometimes, people tend to force their views on others without listening. I think that’s quite disrespectful. I make an effort to listen to others, even if I don’t agree with their ideas.
How will this coveted award influence your future?
It has already boosted my confidence. The entire interview process, which consisted of three rounds, was fantastic and expanded my understanding of how to approach interviews. Through these rounds, I learnt how to present myself, improve my communication skills, and approach an interview. Additionally, this award will enhance the value of my resume.
Who is your role model?
I look up to my older brother. We share the same dream. I admire his diligence and focus. He knows how to stay on track even when distractions come his way.
What mantra did you follow to get this award?
I had a simple mantra: Stay positive. I constantly told myself that I could do it. I visualised my success and maintained a sincere attitude. Now, that I have finally received the award, I am filled with pride. For the past five years, I had been nominated for this award, but couldn’t crack it in the final round. I had an innate determination that I would get it this time since I stayed positive all through.
What would you like to imbibe from Dr Stya Paul’s life?
Helping others is a noble endeavour. Dr Stya Paul dedicated his life to serving people selflessly. I’m inspired by his example. I want to create a community and contribute to the growth of others, just as he did. It will be challenging to do this, but I will stay focused and achieve this one day.
