Shweta Arora, who is pursuing an MBA at Apeejay Institute of Management and Engineering Technical Campus (AIMETC), won the coveted Dr Stya Paul Award for Human Values for showcasing exemplary moral values. In an interview, the second-year student tells us what the award means to her, the values that shape her personality and more.

Excerpts:

What does winning this award mean to you?

It is a huge honour. I am very happy to have been able to live up to the expectations of my teachers. When I got to know that the award came with a cash prize, I decided to give it to someone in need, perhaps for their education or some other purpose, instead of spending it on myself.

What are some of the most important human values according to you?

Empathy is very important as it helps people understand what others are going through. Empathy is what helps you build a peaceful society. I also believe everybody should be honest. Lastly, love and peace are also important.

Are you involved in some social work through college clubs?

I was part of an NGO called Steer for Change (SFC) Foundation. I feed stray animals and try to help people in whatever ways possible.

I also participate in various other activities, from debate to elocution and sports. I have formed teams on my own and worked with my peers on these activities.

What have you learnt about teamwork through these activities?

The faculty at AIMETC always motivate students. They keep pushing us to participate in events and showcase our talent. While working with a team, I learnt how to manage everybody while giving value to others’ perspectives and ideas, which goes a long way in maintaining harmony.

Do you practise the same at home?

My mother is a single parent. Besides giving her emotional support, I do my share of household chores and take up responsibilities to help my mother.
