Neetu Sharma is an author, a language trainer and Director with Newlyte Brainery, an institute that teaches foreign languages in Jalandhar. Her children — Devansh Sharma and Kamakshi Sharma — study in class 5 and 7 respectively of Apeejay School, Model Town, Jalandhar. In an informal interview, she dissects the role of the school in the holistic development of her children.

Why did you select Apeejay School?
I studied in a top government school in Jalandhar affiliated to the Punjab School Education Board. But, I had made up my mind that I will either choose CBSE or ICSE affiliated school for my children. I believe that students studying in CBSE or ICSE schools have good command over the English language. I developed fluency in the language during my college years whereas my children have a good grasp on the English language at a very young age. I chose Apeejay because a family friend recommended it. Also, I had a good awareness about the school myself.

Tell us about the progress made by your children?
The school is doing a great job in equipping my children for the real world. I like the special emphasis given on extracurricular activities, including sports. Devansh is good at chess while Kamakshi is in the school basketball team. Extra-curricular activities play an essential role in shaping the personality of the students. I also like to thank the school for making my kids self-dependent. They rarely seek our help while setting up online classes, doing homework or taking online exams. They even help me with household chores as the school has taught them at length about no-fire cooking.

How would you rate the teachers?
The teachers cooperate with parents and they are masters of their subjects. That’s why, we never felt the need to send our children to tuition classes, whereas I know many students from other schools who have opted for tuition classes. Teachers are leaving no stone unturned to bring out the best in students. To keep us updated on the progress of our children, the Apeejay teachers have shared with us their email IDs and formed WhatsApp groups.

Can you share with us some memorable moments?
During my 10-year association with Apeejay I have formed many fond memories. But, the one that really stands out is when Kamakshi was conferred with the prestigious Dr. Stya Paul Award for Human Values 2020. The award is given to students who exemplify and exhibit good human values in their day-to-day life. Kamakshi had to go through a series of online interviews, but she handled all the questions with ease. I was impressed with my daughter.

“Apeejay School has contributed to the 360-degree growth of my children. I am happy that my children will finish their schooling from Apeejay. The students of Apeejay stand out from the crowd due to their character, personality and class. They possess top-notch communication skills.”
