Monita Samal says she is extremely happy with her daughter Kyra’s progress at Apeejay School, Panchsheel Park, since she joined the school last year in Nursery. Monita is a homemaker while her husband Jayant Samal is the Managing Director at Techne Engineers India. In an interview, Monita, whose daughter is now in kindergarten, shares how online classes have helped her get a better understanding of how to assist her daughter at home while studying. Edited excerpts:

Was Apeejay School, Panchsheel Park, recommended to you?

I got to know from my peers about Apeejay School. They told me it is a very good school. Now that I have first-hand experience, I can confidently say that the learning process here has had a good, positive impact on my daughter.

While picking schools for your daughter, what were the criteria?

We wanted an institution that would prioritise a child’s overall development. At Apeejay, students get many opportunities to explore their talents by participating in several co-curricular activities. Kyra enjoys her activity classes, from music classes to her art class. She also wants to swim and participate in various sports, and this school offers them all.

What do you think about the online classes?

The teachers put a lot of effort into preparing the classes. It is incredible how they manage to hold the attention of all the students, even in the virtual format. Kyra’s class teacher is very helpful. She regularly keeps in touch with the parents on WhatsApp.

Does your daughter enjoy the classes?

Online classes are quite interactive—from show and tell activities to science experiments, the teacher adopts various interesting methods for her class. She perfectly blends play with learning. Kyra looks forward to these classes.

Education during my childhood was quite different. Now that I am attending classes with my daughter, I also get to learn. For instance, Kyra recently learned phonetics, which is not how we learned alphabets as kids. Thanks to the online classes, I get to see how the teacher explains concepts, which makes it easier for me to assist my child at home.

What has Kyra learned so far?

We are extremely happy with Kyra’s performance. We feel great that we put her in this wonderful school. My daughter has also learned letter blending. Now, she can also read a full sentence. She is also gradually taking interest in reading storybooks.
