Indian culture and heritage are our touchstones, our points of reference, and our identity. They serve as a reminder of our history and national treasures. In a way, they enable us to appreciate our past and how we have come on the roadmap of development, knowledge and thoughts. They even provide significant historical resources, evidence of history and promote tourism. Thus, it is important for us to preserve the rich cultural and heritage monuments of the world.

Resonating with this thought, the Junior Wing of Apeejay School, Noida recently celebrated ‘World Heritage Day,’ wherein students were introduced to the meaning of the word ‘Heritage.’ The aim of the celebration was to help children know about the country’s rich history.

During the event, the teachers took the students of classes Nursery to class II on a virtual tour of various heritage sites. The young learners were shown documentaries on the seven incredible and famous heritage sites of the world protected by UNESCO. Through these informative documentaries, they learnt amazing facts about the rich and diverse heritage of the world.

It was followed by the ‘Colour the Monument’ activity, wherein students were given pictures of monuments and were asked to colour them.

On this occasion, the students of class III researched on heritage monuments and presented amazing facts using hand puppets related to the Indian monuments. At the same time, the learners of class IV narrated stories related to the different monuments.

Meanwhile, the students of class V interviewed their family members to find interesting information about Indian monuments and shared the astonishing facts with their peers.

At the end, the students were sensitised about the importance of Indian heritage as a legacy, passed from one generation to another.

While expressing her views, Smriti Samuel, Primary-Incharge at Apeejay School, Noida said, “Even though humans have achieved great advances in technology, the essence of our culture and heritage remains impeccable in our past, present and future.”

Earlier, Apeejay School, Noida had organised a number of events and programmes for the young learners to introduce them to archaeological sites, heritage, and history so that they know about these important aspects of the past as well.
