Student of Apeejay School, Mahavir Marg, Helik Jairath, is one of those talents that genuinely love their craft. Skilled in both art and creative writing, this student is excelling so fine that he has been chosen once again as the Apeejay Promising Poet.

In a fun interview, the budding poet tells us the story behind his latest poem: Envy and also speaks about his immense improvement since the previous time he got featured.

Helik, since our previous interview, what new poems and stories have you written?

I’ve completed a poem titled: Decay. This poem delves into the theme of one-sided relationships, where one person gives generously but receives little in return. It’s like being the bravest soldier that bleeds the most but gets nothing in return. I am sure that I will share the poem with the Apeejay Newsroom shortly. Additionally, I’ve been creating several quotes and stories that I’m eager to present to you in the near future.

Any recent poem you read that simply blew your mind?

The poem that blew my mind was Invictus by William Henley. It is a poem about being strong in tough times. It says that even when life is hard, we can stay strong and control our own future. The poet wrote it when he was very sick, hence it’s about not giving up. The last lines, “I am the master of my fate: I am the captain of my soul,” mean we have power over our lives, no matter what happens. So, Invictus reminds us to keep going and stay strong when things get tough.

And what about your poem Envy, any story or personal anecdote behind it?

Envy is a poem that resonates deeply with my personal experiences. It explores the complex emotions that arise when one grapples with feelings of jealousy and comparison. While I can’t share specific anecdotes, I can say that the themes in the poem reflect universal struggles that individuals, including me, encounter in navigating relationships and aspirations.

So, been trying anything new in creative writing, a new form maybe?

Yes, indeed! I’m currently working on a new book that delves into ancient Indian culture, drawing inspiration from its rich tapestry of mantras and mudras. It’s a fascinating exploration of mystical practices and traditions that resonate deeply with all readers.

A new poet on social media whose work you liked?

I discovered Raegan’s poetry on Instagram and I was immediately drawn to her beautiful way of writing about love. She has a talent for expressing emotions in a way that anyone can relate to.

Your school continues encouraging you?

My school has played a role in encouraging my poetry through exposure to various forms of art and expression. Watching movies and listening to music by talented songwriters like Taylor Swift, Pink Floyd and David Kushner has been incredibly influential in shaping my creativity and inspiring my writing. So, in a way, school has contributed to my poetic journey by fostering an environment where I could explore different forms of artistic expression.

What’s the next target in mind?

My new target is still within literature, but I’m shifting my focus more towards storytelling rather than poetry. I’m excited to explore the narrative aspect of literature and delve into crafting engaging stories. Soon, I’ll be uploading my stories to the Apeejay Newsroom website, eager to share my creative endeavours with the community.
