Anandi Gadge, a prodigious class VIII student at Apeejay School, Kharghar in Navi Mumbai, is a remarkable young individual with an insatiable appetite for knowledge. Her fervent dedication to academic pursuits is evident in her unyielding passion for the medical field, undoubtedly influenced by her mother, Dr Priyanka Gadge, a distinguished dermatologist.

Anandi’s relentless drive to excel is a testament to her unwavering focus on her aspirations. Beyond her academic endeavours, she finds solace in the vibrant strokes of a paintbrush and the energetic pace of a handball game. During moments of respite, she delves into scholarly articles, enriching her understanding of the intricate world of Science. Anandi is undeniably a force to be reckoned with, poised to leave an indelible mark on the realms of academia and beyond.

Edited excerpts from the interview.

Tell us about yourself.

I like to play sports and create art. Besides, I am a girl who has millions of thoughts in her head, often all at the same time. Nonetheless, I hope to deliver my best in everything. I am quite focused towards my goal of becoming a medical practitioner.

Are you an avid reader? Any favourite authors?

Yes. I like to read adventure-based books and novels. My go-to is Grandma’s Bag of Stories by Sudha Murty. That was also the first-ever book I read! I learn from the author’s emphasis on values and attempt to imbibe the same in daily life.

You wrote an article on becoming a general surgeon. Is it your decision?

Yes. I am curious about the field. Being a general surgeon is my motivation. I also read encyclopedias and scholarly articles in my free time. Subjects like Biology and Chemistry, particularly, interest me.

What is your process of writing?

This is my first write-up. I saw my friends participating in the Scholar-Journalist programme. So, they encouraged me to give it a shot as well. Then, I wrote about something that is close to my heart. I made two drafts and got feedback from my teachers before sending my entry to Apeejay Newsroom.

Your role models?

I am inspired by my parents. My mother is a celebrated doctor and my father, Arvind Gadge is a hydraulic engineer. Both of them have done exceedingly well in their respective professions. Apart from them, the Indian physicist who is often considered the father of the Indian nuclear programme, Homi Bhabha is another personality that inspires me.

Any writing tips for your classmates?

Make your article linguistically sound by reading books to cull out good words.
