Sana Irfan Ali is perhaps in the most delightful phase of life. She has recently stepped into her work life and is currently a sales trainee with Bharat Serums and Vaccines Ltd. Ali has completed her Bachelor’s degree from School of Pharmaceutical Sciences at Apeejay Stya University. She was part of the 2022 batch. In an informal interview, the young sales learner mentions how this profession gives her the freedom to travel, meet people and develop her network on the go. Edited excerpts:

What does a day at the office look like?

I have to accompany my senior manager during his meetings with various doctors. We visit the doctors and give them information about our products. I am into women’s health products (for mothers who are expecting). So, at times I have to make various surveys as well. I cover the big hospitals in Mumbai.

What inspired you to join this field?

My father is a businessman and one day I too hope to set my business venture. Therefore it is important to see how the field work is done and understand the factors one needs to consider. I want to have knowledge of sales and I am learning a lot every day.

Best memories from ASU days?

I was the president of the music society in my final year. I sing both: Indian classical as well as western music. I even sang the viral Spanish song Despacito once in college. In my final year, I was also doing an internship in Faridabad at Bronze laboratory and managing my studies simultaneously. Those were great days.

What are your key learnings from Sales?

I don’t like to work in a laboratory, within four walls. Being in sales and marketing allows me to explore the world. It is not a fixed 9-5 job, therefore it gives me a lot of freedom and I get to travel a lot, as well. I learn a lot by meeting so many new people and making connections. It is great!

Where do you see yourself in the next five years?

I would like to become the marketing manager in this company or start my own business venture in the near future.
