Aiming to inculcate various human values such as respect, responsibility, courage, caring and sacrifice among young learners, Apeejay School, Noida, recently launched the Awakening Programme in collaboration with Ramakrishna Mission. As part of this programme, multiple sessions were conducted for students of Classes 1-5.

During the sessions, students were explained the meaning of different human values. In addition, various activities were performed related to ‘integrity and respect for all’. These activities were conducted in classes as per the predefined manual with an aim to track the awakening journey of the children and thereby empowering them to manifest their infinite potential to help others.

In this programme, the use of activities like ‘guided role play’ and ‘enactment’ aimed at encouraging the child to collaborate with others, think, reflect, respect, value that would aid in their socio-emotional development.

This activity enabled the students to brainstorm and develop a script that helped them to invent various ways of dialogue delivery and play proceedings. The children performed group role play in which they got an opportunity to collaborate with their friends and enact different characters from the story.

Further, group discussions were conducted to make them understand the importance of ‘being respectful’ while helping them imbibe the same. It also enabled the students to develop a sense of respect towards everyone and value the service and the sacrifices made by others wholeheartedly.

Through these various explorations, situation analyses, discussions, classroom sessions and real-life examples, students discovered the tremendous impact of manifesting these possibilities and succeeded in answering the desired questions mentioned in the sessions.

The emphasis was on understanding the impact of awakening sessions on the students and giving them a framework for decision-making, enabling the discovery, acceptance of values and bringing about an inner transformation.

Ms Smriti Samuel, Primary Incharge of Apeejay School, Noida said, “It’s heart-warming to observe the environment of mutual respect and gratitude that the students are creating through the awakening sessions. Their simple acts of kindness are strengthening the foundation of an inclusive and empathetic society.”
