Apeejay School, Panchsheel Park is a powerhouse of literary talent. It has time and again produced countless poetic talents. And the saga goes on as another bright young talent shares his thoughts on the power of imagination through a poem.

Meet Ranbeer Singh Arora, a class 8 student, who has quite a poetic ability at such a young age. Selected as this week’s Poet of the Week, Ranbeer speaks about how writing makes him experience a closer sense to himself and how the school motivates him to give his best. Read edited excerpts:

Ranbeer, when was it that you started writing poetry?

I started poetry at the age of 11; I was in class 6 then.

And what inspired you to get into it?

I was inspired by the beauty of creative writing and that it makes one experience of a state of being.

Wow, that’s quite deep! Was this the idea in your poem: Imagination?

The poem tells us that we can be free in all experiences in the land of dreams or imaginations. One can enjoy being themselves in that realm.

And who is your favourite poet and any favourite poem?

There is no favourite for me as of yet. Let’s see in the future.

Rhyme or free verse, which one do you prefer?

I would prefer rhyme as it gives a sweet melody to the poem. This makes us enjoy it more while reading or listening.

And a particular time for writing poetry: Day or night?

There is no specific timing for me but I would prefer peace while writing so any time where there are no distractions.

So, how does your school support you to write such lovely poems?

My school gives me so many opportunities to show my talent and to feel confident and fearless. That could be the reason behind why I feel free while expressing myself through poems.

How do you approach writing a poem? What are your common writing themes?

When I feel calm and joyous,  I begin to write a poem. It normally takes me about half an hour to write a poem but it could be a little more or less. My themes revolve around joyous episodes to real experiences

Finally, the best thing about writing poetry for you is..

Fully expressing my feelings or thoughts about a topic and being confident.
