Young children often begin to understand themselves through simple acts of expression. At Apeejay School, Tanda Road, this idea came alive through an ‘All About Me’ activity organised for the Nursery class, where the youngest learners were encouraged to speak about themselves in front of others. The activity gave them space to share small but meaningful details about their world, including their favourite toys, colours and personal likes.
Building confidence from the beginning
For children at the nursery level, speaking before a group is not just a classroom exercise. It is often one of their first steps towards self-confidence. During the activity, the tiny tots participated with enthusiasm and spoke about themselves with ease.
The use of cute props and actions made the session more engaging for the young participants. These simple aids helped them communicate in a natural and joyful manner. They also made the activity less intimidating, allowing children to connect their words with gestures, objects and familiar ideas.
Learning through expression
The activity focused on strengthening speaking skills in an age-appropriate way. Children were not expected to deliver perfect lines. They were encouraged to express what they knew, what they liked and how they saw themselves.

By talking about their favourite colours, toys and likes, the children also practised organising their thoughts. Such activities help young learners listen to others, wait for their turn and respond in a classroom setting.
A meaningful early step
The activity also helped nurture self-awareness among the students. When children speak about themselves, they begin to recognise their preferences and identity.
Through the All About Me activity, Apeejay School, Tanda Road, created a warm platform for its Nursery learners to speak, participate and grow. It was a simple classroom exercise, but for the children, it marked an important step towards confidence, expression and joyful learning.
