Moral science lessons in schools typically aim to impart ethical principles, values, and virtues to students, helping them understand the importance of moral behaviour and decision-making in their lives. By incorporating moral education into the school curriculum, educators aim to foster the holistic development of students, preparing them to become responsible, ethical, and compassionate members of society, expresses Vijay Rajshekhar Patted whose daughter Nitya studies in class X at Apeejay School, Nerul.

Excerpts from the interview

Why did you select Apeejay for your daughter?

I was working in Noida earlier and got transferred to Navi Mumbai then, and soon we started looking for a best school for my child. We received rave reviews about this school and did our bit of research too. Finally everything seemed good to go and I admitted my daughter Nitya here.

How are the teachers here?

The teachers here are super perfect at their job. When my daughter was in junior elementary level – class I to V, all her teachers used to superbly guide her and prepared her for the harder times ahead. Finally, now when she is in class X, the interactive learning is comparatively easier for her because of all the pre-preparation.

How are you handling the pressure for her boards this year?

See, Nitya has been a studious child since day 1 of school. She is doing her studies regularly and moreover we extend all secondary support like – tuitions and home schooling whenever required. In fact, the teachers also encourage her to discuss any problems she is facing to find proper solutions. I feel, Nitya has been doing all her class work, projects for internal assessments superbly and so far there is really no pressure on her or me.

Do you agree with the adage – that school is the second home for a child?

Definitely it’s 100 percent true. It is because when a child spends a major part of his/her life at school, they consume certain experiences that are essential for their overall development in life. My daughter never misses her school except for a few exceptions. She just loves to spend time at school.

What is your parenting mantra?

I think our motto towards good parenting is keeping the child healthy. It should start by giving nutritious food and making it a habit to eat clean always. Teaching good moral values to the child is the next important step to ensure the child learns to respect them from early on and feels important to give it back to the society and nation later on.
