‘My daughter has learnt to be more respectful at this school’

When both parents are working, there is a lot of debate that happens when it comes to choosing the right school for their child. Besides the usual checklist of the brand value of the school, the reputation it enjoys and the calibre of the teachers, a big consideration that weighs in while choosing the school is how far or near the school is from home.

When it came to the admission of their daughter, Prisha Patidar, who has now gone to class I at Apeejay School, Saket, her father Pawan and mother Yashu wanted their daughter to study at a school that was near their home and yet was ranked among the top schools of Delhi. “Apeejay came out the winner,” Pawan said.

Excerpts from the interview.

How and why did you choose Apeejay?

When we were looking for a school for Prisha we asked for recommendations. Several of our friends said that it was a good school. They said Apeejay not only enjoyed a brand value, but it also has some of the best teachers. My wife and I were looking at other schools in Saket but we were told that this was the best school since its environment is also excellent.

How was the admission process?

While we filled out the form online and submitted the documents required, my daughter was asked to visit the school for a one-on-one interview. She did well and got selected.

Why was the proximity of the school near where you live important?

We wanted my daughter to reach home faster – it cuts down on travel time. This gives her time to pursue other activities as well. She doesn’t get tired and as she goes into higher classes she will need to put in more study hours. Reaching home faster will be an added advantage.

We have not come across anything that is below par at this school. It is all good and we are happy that our daughter is studying here

What are some of the changes that you have noticed in her?

There have been a few. There is a marked improvement in her tone of speaking; she gives respect to her elders and has become more sincere. We were trying to inculcate these habits in her at home, but since she has started going to school, the change has been faster.

Does she like to participate in activities?

She does and at times we push her to participate. In each case, she enjoys these activities which is encouraging. Recently, she participated in an event the school had organised. She had spent 15 days preparing for the same at home. We also plan to put her in swimming and judo karate classes since vacations have started.

Are parent-teacher meetings held regularly?

Yes, they are. But my wife and I are working and sometimes, it is not possible to attend these parent-teacher meetings. But in either case, we always get regular updates from the teachers. They send the homework as well that she completes at home.

How has your experience been thus far?

We have not come across anything that is below par at this school. It is all good and we are happy that our daughter is studying here. I have told a couple of my friends whose children are about to start their schooling to get their wards admitted here.
