To make academics fun and interesting for toddlers, Apeejay School, Panchsheel Park, employs thematic learning technique for better concept-building during the foundational years.

Activities form an integral part of thematic learning and keeping this in mind, the school recently organised a collage-making activity for kindergarten students. The activity was based on the theme of the month: “My Country”, in which children were asked to make a collage using the national symbols of India. The class also engaged in a discussion on patriotism to instill in children a love for their country.

Thematic learning is an interdisciplinary approach that involves selecting and highlighting a theme through an instructional unit, module, or multiple courses. Theme-based learning integrates different learning areas and skills.

At Apeejay, the teachers believe in “learning by doing” and the class activities that are held frequently are designed accordingly to arouse children’s interest. A while ago, the pre-primary students participated in a “Me on Map” activity where they showcased their state, country, continent, and so on. Mapping skills allow students to connect events related to the places and spaces around them while acquainting them with their geographical location.

In another activity, the pre-primary children dressed up in colourful costumes and participated in “Nrityagana, a folk-dance activity”. They showcased their dancing talent through beautiful folk performances. The students thoroughly enjoyed the activity, which was aimed at acquainting them with their country’s diversity and rich heritage.
