Himanshu Mendiratta, who pursued a post-graduate diploma at Apeejay School of Management (ASM), has made his college proud by securing a job as a sales manager at Tata Capital Finance with the highest package. The Apeejayite, who specialised in Marketing and Operations, shares how the mentoring sessions and the placement team prepared him for job interviews.

Excerpts:

Why did you opt for a sales manager profile?

I applied for the role because of my prior work experience at Policy Bazaar, which I joined after my graduation. My work profile at Tata Capital will be that of a Housing Finance manager. I will be joining the company in May this year.

In what ways did ASM help you gain a relevant understanding of the industry and prepare you for your journey ahead?

The course at ASM began with mentoring sessions where the students were divided into groups and assigned a professor to guide them. They gave us an idea of how the corporate world functions. We were given multiple assignments like “Tell Me About Yourself” and news writing and presentation, which helped us prepare for the placement interviews. Our mentors also taught us how to write a good resume.

In addition, we had two-three guest lectures by leading industry professionals every semester, which were immensely insightful and engaging. They discussed marketing topics and also spoke of their respective experiences in various industries.

Besides, the Marketing curriculum at Apeejay covers pretty much everything that can be asked in an interview, and each module was explained in great detail by our professors.

Did your mentors also conduct mock interviews with you?

For the mock interviews, we were assigned two teachers. We had group discussion (GD) sessions where we debated pertinent issues. We also had “entrepreneur classes”, where our mentor shared valuable tips.

What do you have to say about the placement cell at ASM?

As the president of Campus Placement, I learnt a lot. From live projects to internship and summer training projects, the team helped me gain adequate industry knowledge. The Corporate Resource Centre (CRC) team helped me by providing relevant information about the companies that came to hire. I am grateful to ASM for giving us the opportunity to showcase our skills and talent to some of the top companies in the world.
