‘My mentors at college made me industry-ready’

Manisha Singh, a student of Apeejay School of Management (ASM), has bagged a job at Tata Capital Finance with a package of Rs 9.45 lakh. She is pursuing a post-graduate diploma in management in Marketing and Operations. In an interview, she tells us how her college prepared her for placement interviews:

What job profile have you been selected for?

I applied for the position of sales manager, and I am happy to be selected for the same profile.

How did ASM support you?

ASM has taught me a lot. I used to be an introvert and felt nervous about interacting with people. I had stage fear, but I overcame it all by participating in various college activities, not to mention the encouragement I received from my mentors. My public speaking skills improved considerably.

Coming to academics, ASM provided the right blend of theoretical knowledge and its practical application in today’s age. As part of my specialisation, I learnt a lot about the industry, consumer behaviour, new product developments, and so on, which prepared me for the placement interview.

Would you say ASM made you industry-ready?

Absolutely! The mentoring sessions were extremely helpful where they shared tips on how to cope with professional challenges and make it big in our respective fields.

Apart from technical knowledge, what other skills did you have to work on for your interview?

Confidence and fluency are very important when it comes to an interview. You do not necessarily need to know every answer but you must practise to know how to tackle a question. This is where my mentor Anuj Kumar sir guided me and boosted my self-confidence.
