‘Knowledge of both clerical work and sales essential to manage business efficiently’

A young businessman from Delhi shares some key takeaways from his professional journey so far

Yasharth Grover, an Apeejay Svran Global School alumnus is at present, managing family business in Delhi along with his father. After school, he studied BBA from The NorthCap University, Gurugram. His goal now is to expand his brand reach and facilitate its growth through digital marketing. Excerpts:

What was school like?

I have fond memories of Apeejay Svran Global School. I remember enjoying every day because my teachers made learning not only a fun process but also enriching. Not just academics, we were always encouraged to participate in various co-curricular activities that helped in shaping our personalities.

Did you always want to join your family business?

Yes. I feel proud to be able to carry forward what my father built with so much hard work and passion, and I intend to do the same. I joined the family business soon after my graduation. It has been about three years since I joined full-time. When I was in college too, I would go to office during the weekends and or vacations.

Tell us about your business and the areas you handle in particular.

My company’s name is Vijay Power and we are based out of Faridabad. We are authorised distributors of electric motors and gearboxes. We deal in many reputed brands like Crompton Greaves, ABB, Siemens, Premium Greaves Radicon, etc. We also sell consumer items as well like pumps and lighting.

I look after the overall management of the firm although my core area is purchasing and marketing.

What have you learnt so far?

I have learnt that in order to excel in any business, it is important to start at the grassroots. It is not possible to efficiently manage any business unless you have adequate knowledge of not just sales but also clerical work.

What are your future plans?

I plan to establish a digital presence for our business. Digital marketing in today’s times is crucial for the growth of a company and to thrive in a competitive environment. I also plan to expand my business by venturing into more products.
