The JEE Mains Results for 2024 Session I were declared on February 12. Several students from Apeejay Schools have brought accolades to the institute. One such student is Anya Jain of Apeejay School, Faridabad in Sector 15 who scored a 99.5 percentile. With the subject combination of Physics, Chemistry, Math, and Economics, Anya wants to pursue architecture.
“However, due to its limited scope in India, I’m now exploring options in engineering. I’m particularly interested in pursuing BTech in Computer Science and possibly specialising further,” Anya said.
In a candid interview, she talks about her preparation strategy among other things.
How thrilled were you with your exam score?
I was incredibly thrilled when I first saw the result. It was a moment of disbelief at first, followed by a rush of excitement. On the day of the exam, it felt quite tough, so I wasn’t entirely sure about my performance. However, I thought it went okay, and I was hoping for a score of around 98 or 99 percentile.
Can you describe your study strategy?
My study strategy evolved with the syllabus. I focused on understanding concepts and practicing questions rather than memorising. There were days when I would just concentrate on JEE studies and other days it was a combination of JEE and Board preparations. This approach was crucial for good performance.
How long have you been preparing for the JEE, and how did you manage it alongside school?
I’ve been preparing since 11th grade. It wasn’t too difficult to manage with the school. It allowed me to have ample time for self-study and occasional breaks from school.
What kind of support did you receive from your school and teachers?
The support from my school and teachers was exceptional. Whenever my classmates would ask the teacher if I would clear the JEE, she always said, with confidence, that nothing could stop me. They always believed in me, which significantly boosted my morale, especially during challenging times. If I would get stuck in a problem, I could go to my teachers any time for help.
What challenges did you face while preparing, and how did you overcome them?
Time management and avoiding distractions were my biggest challenges. To overcome these, I studied in a designated area away from my phone and TV. I used to also take regular breaks to refresh my mind and avoid burnout.
Did you feel stressed about the exams?
Yes, I was a bit stressed, but my parents are incredible people. They were extremely supportive and ensured that I wasn’t stressed. They reassured me that regardless of the outcome, there was no need to stress over exams. They told me that I could always take the second session.
Are you planning to take the JEE Advanced?
Yes, I have already registered for the second attempt and plan to take the JEE Advanced as well.
Did you use any additional study materials beyond your coaching and NCERT books?
I mostly relied on the study material that I had, but occasionally I referred to other books for additional practice.
What advice would you give to students who didn’t do well in their first attempt?
I would advise them not to stress too much. It’s important to analyse their performance, identify weak areas, and focus on improving those. Practicing and finding out where they went wrong in the last exam paper can be particularly helpful.
