Jalandhar students showcase their artistic prowess 

Budding talents from Apeejay participate in a Folk Art Exhibition held at Guru Nanak Dev University

Students from Apeejay College of Fine Arts (ACFA), Jalandhar showcased their artistic prowess at the Folk Art Exhibition held on the occasion of 54th Foundation Day of Guru Nanak Dev University (GNDU). The event, which saw participation from various colleges affiliated with the university, provided a platform for students to exhibit rare artifacts highlighting the vibrant culture and heritage of Punjab.

Under the guidance of dedicated faculty members, including Ms. Anuradha, Ms. Pooja, Ms. Swanti, and Mr. Kunj, Apeejay students displayed an array of culturally significant objects. Sharing her satisfaction, Dr. Neerja Dhingra, Principal of ACFA, expressed joy to see the enthusiastic participation of professors and students from the college. She emphasised, “Such events hold a lot of importance in connecting students with their roots and Apeejay College of Fine Arts consistently endeavours to provide opportunities for students to explore and appreciate their heritage. The idea is to always provide students with various opportunities that would lead to their overall growth and development.”

The exhibition featured an impressive array of items, including brass and bronze utensils, handwoven carpets, khesia (traditional footwear), old folk instruments, phulkari (embroidery), charkha (spinning wheel), traditional pakhiyan jewelry, farming tools, gramophones, radios, and more. These artifacts collectively portrayed the rich heritage of Punjab, offering visitors a glimpse into the cultural tapestry of the region.

The Vice Chancellor of Guru Nanak Dev University, Dr. Jaspal Singh Sandhu, commended the efforts of students and faculty members from Apeejay while acknowledging the significance of their contribution to the art exhibition. The event attracted a large audience, including families keen on acquainting their children with the cultural legacy of Punjab. 

Dr. Sandhu’s appreciation underscored the success of the exhibition in achieving its objective of promoting cultural awareness and fostering a sense of pride in Punjab’s rich heritage among the younger generation. The Folk Art Exhibition served as a testament to the commitment of Apeejay College of Fine Arts to nurture and celebrate the cultural identity of its students.

Sharing her thoughts, Akshita Gupta from B. Voc Cosmetology 1 semester said, “My knowledge about the Punjabi culture and tradition enhanced manifold by participating in the Lok Kala Pardarshani at GNDU, Amritsar.”

Another student Vridhi Jain said, “Through this art exhibition, we not only get to know about our Punjabi culture but also get a glimpse of the rich heritage of the state.”
