Marking a wonderful achievement, talented students of Apeejay College of Fine Arts (ACFA) secured the top three positions in various activities under Systematic Voters’ Education and Electoral Participation (SVEEP), conducted by the District Election Commission.

SVEEP is a flagship programme of the Election Commission of India (ECI) dedicated to promoting voter literacy in India. It aims at educating citizens about the country’s electoral process to foster informed participation. The programme is designed to suit “the socio-economic, cultural, and demographic profile of a state as well as the history of electoral participation in previous rounds of elections and learning thereof,” as per the official website.

The objectives envisaged for SVEEP as per the strategy document for 2022-25 are:

1. Increase voter turnout to 75 per cent in Lok Sabha elections 2024

2.  To enhance the quality of electoral participation in terms of informed and ethical voting through continuous electoral and democracy education

At the recently organised event, students of ACFA participated in activities like poster making, essay writing, slogan writing, and so on. Jaahnavi and Prateek Dutt Sharma, students in their sixth semester of Bachelor in Fine Arts (BFA), won the first and second positions respectively in poster making.

In rangoli-making, two students — Vikas and Abhishek — from second semester, BFA, won the first position. On the other hand, Simran, who is in the second semester, pursuing a master’s degree in Fine Arts, clinched the second position in slogan writing.

Rajat and Bhavini, students from the fourth semester pursuing Bachelor of Commerce (BCom) and BSc in Economics respectively, secured the third position in speech and essay writing competitions.

Dr Neerja Dhingra, principal, ACFA, congratulated all the participants and encouraged them to continue showcasing their skills at events. “They should continue to participate in various competitions in the future as well. This will not only lead to an all-round development of their personality but also increase self-confidence,” she said.

Dr Dhingra appreciated the efforts made by Anil Gupta, HoD of Applied Arts, in preparing students for poster making; Monika Anand, HoD, Home Science Department, for guiding the students in rangoli; and Dr Rimpi Aggarwal, HoD, Department of Fine Arts, for guiding the students in slogan writing.

In line with Apeejay’s mission of holistic education, ACFA believes in motivating students to explore and identify their true talents and skills through co-curricular activities. The institute strives to create a fine balance between tradition and modernity and between timeless values and innovative techniques, thereby sensitising the younger generations to perform their roles in nation-building.

In November 2022, the college was declared the overall champion of the much-talked-about youth festival organised by Guru Nanak Dev University (GNDU). The college secured a total of 133 points to attain the first position. The college has been winning prizes at the competition for the past two decades and creating a legacy of its own.
