In a world teeming with germs, the power of hand washing cannot be underestimated. Recognising the critical role it plays in preventing the spread of illnesses, students of pre-primary and primary classes at Apeejay School, Charkhi Dadri in Haryana have taken a stand for personal hygiene. Their mission? To champion the practice of thorough hand washing and foster a culture where clean hands reign supreme.

Renowned health expert, Dr. Sarita Sheoran, M.S., recently addressed these young minds, enlightening them about the simplicity and effectiveness of hand washing. Shockingly, she revealed that a staggering 39% of individuals fail to wash their hands after coughing, sneezing, or even blowing their nose. Determined to surpass this alarming statistic, the motivated students of the school aim to set a higher standard, promoting proper hygiene through the power of hand washing.

Dr. Sheoran further emphasised the importance of scrubbing and rinsing hands with soap and water, ensuring the removal of dirt and germs. She firmly dismissed the notion that hand sanitizers alone can replace this fundamental practice, as they prove ineffective when hands are dirty or greasy. It is through the combination of soap, water, and diligent handwashing that the battle against germs is won.

Applauding the expert’s invaluable insights, Mr. Rudrendra Basak, Principal of the school, expressed his gratitude for her invaluable contribution to the school community. He also acknowledged that proper handwashing remains the best defence against the transmission of illnesses, emphasising that education and adherence to this hygienic ritual can yield significant health benefits.

As the students eagerly absorbed these lessons, they have embarked on a mission to spread the word, not the germs! Armed with the understanding that good hand hygiene is the first line of defence against a host of illnesses, from the common cold to more serious diseases like hepatitis A, they are resolved to maintain personal hygiene diligently.

According to Ms Anita Singh, a kindergarten educator who attended the session, “It was an informative and interactive workshop for all the students. Not only did they understand how to wash their hands, but also learned the importance of healthy living.” As an educator, she recommends conducting such sessions in schools for the overall development of children.

Together, these young ambassadors are building a culture where hand washing is not just a habit, but a way of life. Through their commitment, they aim to inspire others to join the fight against germs, safeguarding their health and the well-being of their community.

Remember, washing your hands isn’t just a routine chore—it’s a powerful shield against illness. Let’s champion this essential practice and ensure that clean hands become a universal symbol of health and vitality! So, wash your hands and let’s triumph over germs!
