When Lalita Chuphal set out to pursue her passion in animation multimedia, she had no doubt in her mind that Apeejay Stya University (ASU) was the right choice for her. Fast forward to today, Chuphal is the CEO of Prismart Productions, a globally reputed animation studio, and recently attended the Hong Kong International Film and TV Market (FILMART) 2023, where she discussed 3D animation with some of Asia’s leading content markets.

She credits her success to ASU’s faculty who went above and beyond to ensure a seamless learning experience during the COVID-19 induced lockdown. “I would recommend this university to those wanting to pursue MA in Animation Multimedia,” Chuphal said.

Chuphal’s success is a testament to the quality of education and support provided by ASU. The university’s commitment to providing students with a world-class education has earned it a reputation as a leading institution for higher learning in India.

In an exclusive interview she shares her success story and says that the animation sector is thriving and constantly evolving, with new technology and software constantly hitting the market.

How did you end up studying at Apeejay Stya University?

Since I am from Delhi, I was looking for colleges to pursue my masters from Delhi itself. I felt that I needed to be MA in Animation. During my search, I came across Apeejay Stya University (ASU). The best part was that it was not very far from where I live; commute was easy. So I decided to enroll here. When the COVID-19 hit, the classes shifted online, so it came easier for me to attend the classes.

Are there some skill sets that you learnt at ASU that you are using at your production house?

There are a few skill sets. During my course, we were taught a lot of practical aspects of the programme. And most of what was told to us is coming in handy for me. Not only did the skills help me to hone my skills, I am also able to guide the other artists in my team. During the course, I gained in-depth knowledge of how this industry works and how various software can be used to better the work that we are doing.

How were your days at ASU?

All three semesters were spent learning online due to COVID-19. But when it came to the fourth semester, the classes went offline. While online classes were good, offline were even better. The teachers during the pandemic ensured that the classes were interesting and we learnt as much as we could; they ensured that learning was seamless. They told us about different software and on the basis on what was taught, we were given assignments that had to be completed within a given timeframe.

My success story is a testament to the quality of education and support provided by ASU. The university’s commitment to providing students with a world-class education has earned it a reputation as a leading institution for higher learning in India. Students at ASU are given the tools they need to thrive in a constantly evolving industry, and I am living proof that with the right education and support, success is achievable.

How is the animation sector doing?

I would say that it has picked up suddenly after two years of COVID-19. Today, every field requires animation and multimedia to promote their work and company. With the latest software hitting the market, this space is booming today.

What are some of the things that people need to keep in mind while setting up a business in this field?

I would advise that instead of immediately jumping into starting your business, work in the industry first for a few years to understand the ins and outs of it – gain some market experience. Knowing something and practically carrying it out are poles apart. It is very important to understand how the tech world works otherwise one can end up with burnt fingers. Sadly, this is not what I did, hence I am saying this from experience that I gained while setting up my work.

How was the faculty?

The faculty members were all very good. But I would like to give a lot of credit to Tripathi sir. He was extremely helpful. He always stepped in whenever I would get stuck somewhere.

Would you recommend ASU to others?

I don’t know how the Bachelor’s programme is but the master’s course is very good and I would not hesitate to recommend ASU to those wanting to pursue MA in Animation from here. Meanwhile, I was asked to give feedback on the programme by ASU, which I have already given in writing.

What advice would you give to those who are pursuing a career in animation?

In these times of fast-paced tech advancement, one must keep up with the latest happenings in the animation sector. It is important to be constantly learning and improving your skills, as well as staying up-to-date with the latest software and technology.
