Undoubtedly, internships form an integral part in a candidate’s career growth.  It helps in developing one’s professional aptitude, strengthens personal character, and provides a greater door to opportunity to nurture new skills. Further, it allows one to gain a competitive edge along with understanding the current job market.

Thus understanding why an internship is important to all students, Apeejay Stya University (ASU) encourages students to take up internships from the first year itself.

Building this further, School of Management Sciences (SOMS) at ASU recently conducted a Students’ Conference on Management Internship and Learning Outcomes. The objective of this conference was for the students to share their internship experiences with each other and learn from one another. The same would help in improving the communication and presentation skills of the students.

The event started with the keynote address delivered by Prof. (Dr) Sunil Kumar Roy, and Assistant Professor Manish Sharma of SOMS. Dr Roy shared his perspective on the internships and how the internships play an important role in learning various aspects of the industry.

Further, Prof. Sharma highlighted the reasons why an internship is important for career development. He also shared the story of an intern ‘George Hu’, who started his career as an intern at Salesforce.com and rose to the position of Chief Operating Officer within a span of 10 years.

A total of 24 students participated in the conference, out of which, 18 of them from senior batches shared

their internship experiences and presented their work during the event. At the end of the conference, the best presentation award was given to Dashmeet Khanuja, who is pursuing BBA FM at School of Management Sciences. Sharing her experience, she mentions, “For many of us, it was the first time we presented. Everyone was nervous, however we gave our best. This presentation session gave us a lot of experience of how to present, what all things we need to keep in mind while presenting to make it impactful and helped us in gaining confidence. Moreover, listening to others’ internship experiences gave us useful insights on what all challenges they faced and how they overcame those. These will surely help us in improving ourselves in our upcoming internships/industry exposure.”
