Ayushi Maurya is working as a video animator with BYJU’S, a multinational educational technology company. The animation specialist has completed her undergraduate studies in animation and multimedia from School of Design and Visual Arts, Apeejay Stya University (ASU) . In a brief interview, the ASU alumna advises the current batch of students to practice animation and get internships in the same to progress faster. Edited excerpts:

Please tell us about your current work profile?

BYJU’S as you know is an educational-technology company. So, we have to make video lessons for students for their respective courses. I am currently working on an animation program in which we have to make the students learn about animation, the basic principles and how to create characters. It’s basically to help them have a deep understanding of the subject and get started with animation. So, I design all that is required.

So, what are some of your best memories from the ASU campus?

We studied our first two years in the Apeejay Institute of Design (AID) and then, we completed the next two years at ASU in Sohna Road. I loved Apeejay Institute of Design – the campus was small and so all of us were very interconnected there. We used to sit in the canteen and have long discussions. Plus, the cultural evenings were very interesting. I used to participate in several dance events. When we came to ASU, it was different and we continued participating in various co-curricular activities.

What life lessons would you like to give to the current batch of students at ASU?

The key to success is deliberate practice. Besides that, spend more time with the teachers beyond the classroom to discuss trending topics. That way you can learn more things and get knowledge outside the syllabus. I used to sit with my professors beyond class hours. They would tell me about their learnings from their college days as well as share essential tips and tricks about animation. I feel students should practice a lot and must start doing internships from their second year itself as it helps them get ahead in life. It also plays a crucial role in shaping one’s career.

How did Apeejay Stya University help you to pursue your passion in life?

It helped me from every perspective possible, as it taught me how to start doing what I wanted to do in my life – that is animation.

What are your future targets?

I want to be in the leadership position in the field of animation in the future.
