Games, fun and learning: Apeejay Noida organises Summer Scholar Camp

Summer camps are platforms that help students recognise their interests, passions and talents. This is what students of Apeejay Noida are exploring at the school summer camp by engaging in various activities and spending time productively

The primary aim of a summer camp is the educational, social and cultural development of students. It helps students to acquire new skills in a safe and nurturing environment. The summer camp experience has a long lasting psychological impact on the development of a child. It is a crucial developmental process. As an embodiment of this thought, Apeejay School, Noida, has organised a summer scholar camp for its students.

The first day of the annual summer camp commenced with the Speech and Drama club conducting an introductory workshop on ‘What is drama, its levels and projection of voice’. Students participated enthusiastically in these theater activities.

Mehar Khurana, a class 7 student, took part in the speech and drama workshop.  She mentioned, “The theme of the workshop is ‘Spies’. On the last day of the workshop, we are even going to do a play titled ‘Spies in disguise’. The activities here are very interesting. We play new games every day and also learn something new. The workshop has given me the confidence to exhibit varied expressions and overcome my stage fright.  It has helped me improve my elocution skills.”

The students also participated in a cartoon drawing activity in which they learned to draw various types of name initials with different cartoon expressions. Students also exercised their motor skills as they practiced writing their own name initials in unique styles.

Another set of children selected robotics as their area of interest in the summer camp. Within this field, an introduction to Atal Tinkering Lab (ATL) was given to all students. It was followed by an introduction to the basic components of electronics. Students participated with full zeal and were super excited to learn about various scientific concepts.

Many students also enrolled themselves in the Dance Club of the summer camp.  Students twisted and twirled their bodies with various warm up exercises to begin with. They then opened themselves to the magic of beat and rhythm as they swayed in various fluid yet firm dance steps. The dance activities filled the entire school building with a spirit of rapture, fun and gusto.

Ahaan Vir Kukreja, a class 4 student expressed his happiness on joining the summer camp in the school. The young learner participated in the dance, robotics as well as art & craft activities at the camp. Speaking about his experience, Ayaan said, “I felt very confident as I got to learn about many new topics and activities according to my areas of interest. I really enjoyed the opportunity to learn some new skills and make many new friends.”

The idea is that students have a fun-learning experience by participating in numerous activities of their choice as well as spend their time during the summer vacation constructively. This summer camp provided students with unique opportunities to explore their talents and interests and thereby, succeed in areas beyond the home and school.
