Choosing Apeejay School, Greater Noida, came naturally for this family. Their children had been studying at Apeejay School, Pitampura, since the beginning. So the family was familiar with the Apeejay Schools and the reputation the schools enjoy. When the family shifted to Greater Noida, enrolling their kids here came naturally. Meet Amit Kumar, whose children Adhiraj Singh (now in Class XII) and Rithvika Singh (now in Class V) are studying here.

In a candid interview, the father talks about his children’s academic journey, among other things.

How have your children adjusted to this school?

For my son, the shift has been good. My younger daughter found it a little difficult in the beginning, but now she has also adjusted. The teachers ensured that she settled in the new environment.

What changes have you noticed in your son’s study routine since he is in Class XII?

He is spending much more time on studies now because he has to manage both the Class XII Board exams and JEE preparation. He is doing both together. At one point, he was putting in around 19 hours, but I am trying to bring it down to about 12 to 13 hours because that is more manageable.

How is he handling the pressure of boards and entrance preparation?

The pressure is definitely there. Many people suggested that he should not attend regular school and should instead go to a dummy school setup. I was uncomfortable with that concept because it did not exist during my time. So he is attending school, preparing for JEE, which means he has a lot of work to do.

What support do you give him as a parent?

I keep talking to him regularly. I ask him what he is doing, what he is unable to do, and whether he needs any help. Many of my friends are connected with coaching classes and this profession, so I tell my son that if there is any problem, he should let me know, and I will arrange support. Since my office timings are long, I can’t help him myself. Hence, I try to stay involved and keep communicating with him.

How are the teachers guiding him in Class XII?

The teachers are good, and they are guiding him well. I do not have any concerns regarding the teachers. I feel that if students get more peer-driven academic exposure and a stronger competitive environment, it can further motivate them to perform better. For a child preparing for Class XII Boards along with JEE, that kind of atmosphere can make a positive difference.

Your daughter is also studying here. How is she doing?

She is doing okay in school. She is at a stage where she wants to try everything. But her interests keep changing. We had put her in a dance class, but then she said she would rather not dance. Currently, she is attending music classes. She is still young, so we are giving her the space to explore.

What advice would you give to other parents whose children are in Class XII?

My advice to parents is to keep talking to their children, because pressure does not work after a certain age. You can only force them to follow a path if they have an interest in it. The world has changed, and today there are many career options beyond engineering and medicine. Children should choose what suits them. I tell my son to stay calm, remain focused, and give his best to whatever he has chosen.
