Discussion on ethical AI development and regulation dominates G20
Artificial Intelligence (AI), with a particular focus on generative AI, and its global economic ramifications took centrestage at the G20 Leaders’ Summit in New Delhi on September 9-10, as conveyed by a senior government official to a news source. “This subject received extensive deliberation amongst the leaders during the summit,” remarked the official.”
Since the launch of OpenAI’s ChatGPT in November 2022, Generative AI has garnered significant attention. There have been apprehensions regarding its potential effect on employment, particularly in white-collar sectors where AI models can be deployed at a large scale.
The official further emphasised that conversations about AI’s economic influence were also on the agenda for G20 members. However, they noted the need for additional data and research to comprehensively grasp the implications of this advancing technology.
