Championing Gender Equality

The world commemorates International Women’s Day on March 8 each year. It is an occasion to promote gender equality and women’s empowerment. The United States began celebrating ‘Women’s Day’ in 1975. Since then, it has been observed worldwide to advocate for women’s rights and world peace.

As a girl, I believe that women are equal to men in all aspects. Many times, society subjects women to forced marriages or child marriages. Young girls are often compelled into labour or household chores in the name of responsibility at a very early age.

At present, the Indian government has implemented stringent laws to safeguard women and girls from such exploitations. It has launched various schemes to encourage girls’ education and make women self-reliant.

However, the issue of female feticide is prevalent in many parts of India. To uphold women’s dignity, provide them with proper education, a nurturing childhood, and ensure their fundamental rights, the celebration of Women’s Day is crucial.

When I grow up, I wholeheartedly want to contribute to this cause and celebrate the day in its truest essence. It will be my endeavour to make each day valuable for gender equality.
