The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) conducted the class XII Physics paper on March 4, 2024. The paper was scheduled from 10:30 am to 1:30 pm. The three-hour exam theory paper was for 70 marks.

It had 33 compulsory questions without any overall choice. Internal choices are given in some questions.

The paper was divided into five sections.

Section A had 12 MCQs and four assertion reasoning-based questions of 1 mark each.

Section B had five questions of two marks each

Section C had seven questions of three marks each

Section D had two case study-based questions of four marks each

Section E contained three long answer questions of five marks each.

No calculators were allowed in the exam.

According to Sonika Shrivastav, TGT Physics at Apeejay School, Nerul, who teaches classes XI and XII, the overall question papers for all three sets were from the NCERT syllabus.

“Section E offered long answer questions, found to be easy with good choices available for all student levels, incorporating derivations and numerical questions. Section A presented a mix of tricky and tough questions,” the educator said and added that the question paper was lengthy and varied in difficulty across different sets.

Below is a detailed analysis of the question paper

Set 1 was identified as the easiest, primarily covering NCERT content.

Set 3 was the most challenging and the toughest.

The discrepancy in difficulty levels among the sets is not something that is typically seen with CBSE exams.

Even though the question papers were lengthy, students did manage to complete the exam within the time slot. “This indicates that the students’ ability to complete all questions was due to effective time management and guidance from their teachers,” Shrivastav said in conclusion.
