The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) English exam for class X concluded yesterday, February 27. The Board exam was held from 10:30 am to 1:30 pm.

Talking about the question paper, Manjusha Das, TGT English, Apeejay School, Panchsheel Park, said, “The CBSE class 10 English examination paper was a balanced mix of analysis and application-based questions, set according to the guidelines and directions provided by CBSE.”

The English paper had three sections: Reading skills, Grammar and Writing and Literature. The first and second sections comprised 20 marks each while the third section had a total of 40 marks.

Here’s the section-wise analysis of the paper by the Apeejay teacher:

*Reading passages were easily comprehensible however they were coupled with some tricky questions. There was need of better formatting to aid the understanding of the instructions which in themselves seemed to be incomplete.

*The Grammar section was designed to test basic concepts of grammar that were taught in class.

*The Writing section also had familiar topics and issues giving learners enough scope to express themselves spontaneously.

*The questions in the Literature section were direct and interesting. It encouraged value-based learning while discouraging rote learning. Students who had a detailed understanding of the text would have been able to answer the questions well.

*Due to ample practice of sample papers, students were able to complete the paper on time with ease.

She added, “Overall the question paper was moderate, balanced and effectively tested the students’ comprehension, writing and analytical skills.”
