Meet Arshiya Chopra, a bright and compassionate student who recently graduated from Apeejay School, Mahavir Marg. Honoured with the prestigious Dr Stya Paul Award for Human Values, she reflects on her journey of self-discovery, integrity, and empathy. In this heartfelt conversation, she shares how her school life, teachers, and experiences helped shape her values and identity. Her story is a powerful reminder that being true to oneself is the greatest achievement of all.
How did it feel when you found out you’d won?
I was thrilled when I got the news. I hadn’t expected it; I just hoped the award would go to the person who truly deserved it. But when I was selected, my entire family was ecstatic. It was a moment of pride and joy.

What do human values mean to you, especially in today’s world?
I think kindness, courage, and empathy are key. These are timeless values that define how we connect with people. While answering the award’s questionnaire, I remember being deeply moved by the questions. They made me reflect on who I truly am and what kind of person I want to be. They weren’t just questions; they were moments of introspection.
If you had to describe what Dr Stya Paul’s ideals mean to you, what would you say?
His life represents integrity and purpose. The way he stood for honesty, compassion, and commitment to a cause is very inspiring. I’ve tried to live those values in my way. I may not be perfect, but I strive to be thoughtful and true to myself.
What part of the selection process stands out in your memory the most?
The interview with my Principal. I was nervous, but I decided to be completely honest. No rehearsed answers, just what I felt in the moment. I spoke my heart out, and I think that’s what made all the difference. I didn’t try to impress anyone; I just wanted to be real.
Would you say your school life helped nurture these values?
Absolutely. My teachers, my friends, and the environment I grew up in allowed me to be myself and express freely. That shaped me. Whether it was in art, studies, or conversations, I felt heard and valued.
