Apeejay student wins elocution competition on environment preservation

Three students from Apeejay School, Nerul, participated in an inter-school quiz and elocution competition held at Delhi Public School, Nerul. The competition was conducted this month by Navi Mumbai Environmental Preservation Society (NMEPS).

Founded in 2012 by concerned residents of Navi Mumbai, NMEPS aims to promote and raise awareness related to environmental protection and preservation with particular reference to the conversation of mangroves/lakes/wetlands/natural water bodies/natural holding tanks and ecologically sensitive areas in Navi Mumbai. These areas are natural habitats for migratory birds.

Students were questioned on the topic “Preservation of Wetlands” for the inter-school quiz.

The topic for the elocution was “Refusing the use of plastic in day-to-day life”. Research says plastic is frequently buried in the upper layers of the sediment where it becomes immobile and can cause prolonged suffocation, which can ultimately affect mangroves.

Aryan Gehlot, a class IX student from Apeejay Nerul, secured the first position in English elocution competition and secured the first position. Aarav Bajpai from class IX and Jay Gandhi from class VIII, who took part in the quiz, received certificates.

About 25 schools from all over Mumbai participated in the competition.
