Apeejay student represents India on international stage; showcases vibrant Punjabi folk dance 

Apeejay College of Fine Arts, Jalandhar takes immense pride in celebrating the remarkable achievement of its student, Gurnit Kaur Nijjar, who has brought great honour to the institution and the nation. A student of B.Design (Multimedia) Semester II, Gurnit is also an active member of the college’s esteemed Giddha team. Recently, she had the prestigious opportunity to represent India in various cities of South Africa, an honour facilitated by the Indian Council for Cultural Relations (ICCR).

Gurnit Kaur Nijjar, along with her team, delivered spectacular performances showcasing the vibrant Punjabi culture and the traditional folk dance, Giddha. She performed in key South African cities, including Pietermaritzburg, Johannesburg, Newcastle, and Ladysmith. Her presentations not only enthralled audiences but also served as a cultural bridge, strengthening the bond between India and South Africa through artistic exchange.

A significant aspect of this achievement is the recognition she received from the Government of India, which provided her with a White Passport. This passport, reserved for individuals representing India on official cultural and diplomatic missions, is a matter of immense pride and honor. Being chosen to carry this prestigious document is a testament to her talent, dedication, and the trust placed in her by the authorities.

This international cultural program was part of an initiative to enhance cultural exchange and global appreciation of Indian traditions. By performing in front of diverse audiences, Gurnit successfully highlighted the essence of Punjab’s folk heritage, leaving a lasting impact on the international stage.

Apart from her international recognition, Gurnit has been an integral part of the college’s Giddha team, achieving significant success at the national level. She has actively participated in the Zonal and Inter-Zonal Youth Festivals organized by Guru Nanak Dev University (GNDU), Amritsar, where she contributed to the team’s victories, securing first and second positions. Her consistent excellence in performing arts is a reflection of her hard work and passion for preserving Punjabi cultural traditions.

Principal Dr. Neerja Dhingra extended heartfelt congratulations to Gurnit and wished her continued success in all her future endeavors. Dr. Dhingra emphasized that Apeejay College of Fine Arts nurtures its students’ overall development, instilling confidence and encouraging them to embrace opportunities beyond their comfort zones. She highlighted how such platforms enable students to excel on national and international fronts, making them proud ambassadors of their culture.

Dr. Dhingra also acknowledged the relentless efforts of Ms. Lovepreet Kaur from the Department of Punjabi, who has played a pivotal role in mentoring students and refining their skills in Giddha.
