Apeejay School, Saket, organised an engaging workshop on “Sustainability in Education” for its teaching faculty on July 4, 2026. Conducted by experienced resource person Ms. Preeti Phutela, the session encouraged educators to view sustainability not merely as an environmental concern, but as a meaningful approach to building responsible, empathetic, and future-ready citizens.

The workshop began with an exploration of social sustainability and its relevance in the school environment. Ms. Phutela highlighted the important role teachers play in creating inclusive, compassionate, and equitable learning spaces where every child feels valued and heard. She discussed how everyday classroom interactions can help students develop empathy, respect for diversity, collaboration, and a sense of responsibility towards their communities.

Through thought-provoking discussions and practical examples, the faculty reflected on ways to integrate sustainability into regular teaching and learning practices. Participants explored simple classroom initiatives such as reducing paper waste, encouraging mindful consumption, promoting reuse and recycling, and connecting lessons with real-world environmental concerns. The discussion also focused on making sustainability an ongoing part of school culture rather than treating it as a one-time activity or a separate subject.

A key highlight of the session was an interactive activity based on the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Teachers worked together to understand the relevance of the goals in the context of education and identify ways in which they could be introduced through classroom projects, conversations, assemblies, and subject-based learning. The activity enabled participants to see how themes such as quality education, gender equality, good health and well-being, climate action, and responsible consumption are closely linked to students’ daily lives.

Ms. Phutela also spoke about the responsible use of technology in education. She emphasised that digital tools can support meaningful and sustainable learning when used thoughtfully. Teachers discussed how technology can reduce unnecessary resource use, widen access to information, encourage collaboration, and help students engage with global issues in an informed manner.

The workshop concluded with a renewed commitment among the faculty to adopt small yet impactful sustainable practices in their classrooms and beyond. By encouraging reflection, responsible action, and environmental consciousness, the session reinforced Apeejay School, Saket’s commitment to preparing learners who are not only academically capable but also socially aware and mindful of their role in shaping a better future.
