Apeejay College of Fine Arts celebrates International Women’s Day with grandeur

The college holds a line of activities signifying the importance of women health and well-being

Apeejay College of Fine Arts (ACFA), Jalandhar celebrated International Women’s Day with much joy and enthusiasm. As ACFA is celebrating the Golden Jubilee this year, marking the successful 50 years of its foundation and providing quality education, the Women’s Day celebration was also observed in a unique way. Held in collaboration with the Indian Medical Association, the main purpose was to create awareness about women’s health.

The event began with the lighting of the ceremonial lamp, followed by a captivating Durga Stuti performed by students Vinita, Chahat, and Reva from the Department of Dance.

This day was especially dedicated to Mrs Sushma Berlia, Chairman, Apeejay Stya & Svran Group, Chancellor, Apeejay Stya University under whose expert guidance and able leadership the college is soaring higher and higher everyday. 

Dr. Neerja Dhingra, Principal of ACFA, reflected on the college’s 50-year journey, attributing its success to the vision of Mrs. Rajeshwari Paul – First Lady of ACFA, the wife and inspiration of the college’s Founder Chairman, Dr. Stya Paul. She further emphasised and gave credit of this success to the able leadership of Mrs. Sushma Paul Berlia, the progressive outlook of Dr. Neha Berlia, Co-Promoter, Apeejay Stya and Svran Group and Pro-Chancellor, Apeejay Stya University, and the dedicated efforts of Dr. Sucharita Sharma, Director,  Apeejay Education.

The event was graced by the distinguished guests Dr. M. S. Bhutani (President, Indian Medical Association), Dr. Pooja Kapoor, (Secretary, IMA) and expert and senior gynecologists Dr. Amita Sharma, Dr. Harneet Grover, and Dr. Neeti Chhabra Gupta, who were.warmly received by Dr. Neerja Dhingra. 

In the panel discussion themed ‘Women’s Health: Awareness & Prevention’, all the medical experts covered the important topics related to women’s health such as breast cancer, cervical cancer, and PCOD. The discussion provided valuable insights into symptoms, preventive measures, and lifestyle modifications which can be adapted by the individuals. All the doctors emphasised the importance of regular check-ups while highlighting that not all types of cancers are hereditary and that early detection and a healthy lifestyle play a crucial role in its prevention.

Reinforcing its commitment to women’s well-being, the college organised a mammography camp, where more than 40 faculty members availed themselves of free screenings. Dr. Neerja Dhingra expressed her special gratitude to all the medical experts for sharing their gift of knowledge with the august gathering.

Also, on this special occasion, a documentary showcasing the life and contributions of Mrs. Sushma Paul Berlia was screened, inspiring attendees with her journey of resilience and leadership. Students from the Department of Dance gave a powerful dance performance on women’s empowerment, which deeply moved the audience. Dr. Pooja Kapoor presented her powerful poem ‘Nari Ka Samman,’ honoring the strength and resilience of women.

The successful execution of the event was credited to programme in-charges – Dr. Monica Anand, Dr. Rupali Sood, Dr. Neeraj Katyal, and Dr. Nitika Gupta, whose efforts were sincerely appreciated.
