Apeejay School, Noida, commemorated the birth anniversary of Sarojini Naidu, the ‘Nightingale of India’, a day also recognised as National Women’s Day recently. The event was marked by a special class assembly conducted by the students of Class VI-E and VI-F, who paid a heartfelt tribute to the iconic poet, freedom fighter, and social reformer.
The assembly commenced with an air of reverence and enthusiasm as students led the school in prayer, setting a solemn yet uplifting tone for the occasion. This was followed by the thought of the day, relevant news updates, and a weather report, seamlessly integrating routine school activities with the celebration of the day’s significance. The students then presented a poignant recitation of one of Sarojini Naidu’s celebrated poems, encapsulating her literary prowess and patriotic fervour.
An informative talk on her life and contributions further enriched the audience’s understanding of Naidu’s pivotal role in India’s freedom struggle and social movements. The talk highlighted her unwavering determination, her powerful speeches that stirred the masses, and her tireless advocacy for women’s empowerment. Students keenly listened as they learned about her journey from being a poet of immense literary merit to a political leader who played a crucial role in India’s fight for independence.

One of the key segments of the assembly was a phonetic drill, which not only engaged the students but also emphasised the importance of clear and articulate communication, a trait that Sarojini Naidu herself embodied. This was followed by another insightful discussion on her lasting legacy and how her ideals continue to inspire generations. The students reflected on how Naidu’s courage, resilience, and literary contributions remain relevant in today’s society, especially in the ongoing efforts toward gender equality and empowerment.
The highlight of the event was an inspiring address by Vice-principal Ms Puneeta Bhasin, who commended the students for their effort and dedication in organising such a meaningful assembly. She emphasised the need to emulate Naidu’s qualities of courage, determination, and commitment to social change. Her words resonated with the students, encouraging them to strive for excellence in their endeavours and to uphold the values of great leaders.
The assembly concluded on a high note, leaving an indelible impact on both students and teachers. The meticulously planned and well-executed programme ensured that the legacy of Sarojini Naidu was honoured most fittingly. The students received well-deserved accolades for their thoughtful and enthusiastic participation. Their efforts reflected not only their understanding of the significance of the day but also their ability to pay tribute to a historical figure through creative expression and teamwork.

The event was a resounding success, reinforcing the school’s commitment to holistic education and celebration of India’s rich cultural and historical heritage. By remembering and honouring Sarojini Naidu, the students were inspired to embody her values and contribute meaningfully to society, ensuring that her legacy continues to live on in the hearts and minds of future generations.
